TERRY
Terry Armitage has been teaching for over 30 years and has worked with bands for the last 15 years. He was the Canadian representative for the London College of Music UK (Registry of guitar tutors - RGT) for 6 years, and assisted in writing the Popular Music Theory course for the London College of Music; this course is used in most music colleges in the UK. He was also instrumental in setting standards in guitar education across Canada; some of the patrons for RGT are Sir Paul McCartney, David Gilmour, Hank Marvin, and Gordon Giltrap.
TED
When I was a teenager, I had the desire to take up guitar then, but my parents talked me into taking violin, which I did to satisfy them. I found I did not have the desire towards this musical instrument, so after five years of lessons, I gave it up.
About six years ago, my grandsons Daniel and Matthew were into playing the guitar and doing well at it. Hmm, I thought, why not take up the guitar! So about four years ago, the local community center was offering a six week course, and I bought a guitar. This was a good intro and I completed the course. My daughter-in-law suggested I enroll for guitar lessons with Terry Armitage, whom Daniel and Matthew were taking lessons from at the time. So Terry took on a 77-year old man and I have not looked back since, and am having a lot of fun and enjoyment!
NORM
Hi, I'm Norm. I have been involved with music in one form or another for the past sixty years, starting with piano. When I got to secondary school I couldn't drop piano fast enough and started in the school band on trumpet / cornet. Very shortly after, I picked up bass guitar and have been playing both off and on 'til about twenty years ago. Since then, I have been performing in bands regularly on bass or cornet. I have been with The Golden Daze Band since 2014
BRIAN
Brian started taking drum lessons at the age of 11 years old. Brian's old teacher was an older man who played in a symphony. Brian's teacher retired approx. 1.5 years after Brian started taking lessons. Brian's family did not own a car, so Brian had to bicycle to his lessons. Brian then took lessons for another 2.5 years from a teacher who was involved in big band, jazz, blues and Latin American music. After that teacher moved back to the states, Brian did not pursue further lessons.
At the age of 16 or 17, Brian's music career consisted of playing in a band along with his brother for the Alpine Club in Vancouver for special occasions. Their music consisted of polkas and waltzes. He played with the band for approx. 2 years.
Brian also accompanied his brother, who played the accordion, at family New Years celebrations and various other family parties up to the age of around 34 years old. Life got busy and Brian never played drums again until he was invited to join the Golden Daze Band as their drummer in 2014
GAIL
I started my music lessons in 2009, one year before retiring. I play left-handed rhythm guitar. I like all types of music with a toe-tapping beat. I have been with the Golden Daze Band since Sept. 2013. I enjoy the challenge, and entertaining seniors.
